Aerobics is a form of exercise that comprises rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength training routines with the goal of improving all elements of fitness (flexibility, muscular strength, and cardio-vascular fitness). Aerobics is one the most accessible and ubiquitous physical activities on offer, so salvage your lycra from the back of the cupboard and let's hear your body talk. Aerobics is one exercise which gets you results no matter what condition you are in right now.

Aerobics and fitness classes involve the movement of large muscle groups in continuous rhythmic activity to music. Aerobics provides a whole host of health benefits: it burns calories; reduces the risk of cardiac diseases by lowering blood pressure and slowing down atherosclerotic processes; improves aerobic fitness, muscular endurance and flexibility and mobility; improves muscular strength, posture and body performance in all age groups; reduces stress and increases self-esteem by helping with weight management.

Group exercise aerobics can be divided into two major types: freestyle aerobics and pre-choreographed aerobics. In step aerobics, your workout travels vertically rather than horizontally. Step Aerobics is very popular for doing at home becuase of the unlimitless supply of step aerobic exercise videos (Jane Fonda's is very popular), DVDs, and music. Exercising at home has come a long way since Jane Fonda released her aerobics tape in 1982. There are different types of aerobics like fitness walking, jogging, swimming, kickboxing, fitness walking, inline skating, bicycling etc. Increased energy, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, greater suppleness, stronger bones, better posture, and decreased stress levels are other benefits that may accrue from…aerobics. Step aerobics is particularly beneficial for developing and strengthening the muscles in your legs, spine and hips, and also works on your co-ordination.

Almost every gym in Australia offers aerobics classes that combine a variety of dance moves, steps and weights, choreographed to high-energy music. A regular aerobics routine is always beneficial, but you may be missing out on some serious fitness benefits by not mixing it up. But there are some rules and techniques you must strictly follow in order to get maximum results with aerobics. The requirements of aerobics are for shoes that provide stability for side to side motion and are also supportive while permitting both twisting and turning.

In recent years, step aerobics has been more popular than floor exercises. Step kickboxing classes combine step aerobics and kickboxing. Public aerobics is much like public humiliation at first, but nobody else will be laughing at you (or, at least, they'd better not be) because they've all been there!
