On-shore fishing may not always have good results. When fishermen choose this option, they must use long fishing rods as well as long fishing line. In addition, it is very important to master the technique of casting the line away. The further the bait gets the more chances to catch a fish.

An alternative to this option is represented by the utilization of a fishing boat. More than that, in particular situations, catching fish without a fishing boat is quite impossible.

For example, when fishing is performed as an action with commercial purpose, a boat that weighs up to 8 tons is used. The size of such fishing boats is explained by the large quantity of fish that must be caught and transported.

Fishing done in commercial purposes also involves different techniques from the ones that are used by fishermen, because a great amount of fish must be gathered in as little time as possible. These fishing boats have the ability to catch more than a billion fish at once.

Some countries that have islands, especially those who have a food industry based on fish, require a great number of fishing boats. Japan is probably the most relevant example for this situation. In these countries, the fishing boats exist since ancient times. There is no doubt that the boats have been improved ever since. The interest is to increase the capacity of these fishing boats so they are able to catch and carry more fish.

On the other hand, in countries such as the United States, fishing is performed more as a sport. In this country, the food industry is based on agriculture and on mainland products. As the food supply is not mainly based on fish, in countries like this other types of fishing boats needed to be developed. Sport fishing boats that usually can carry one or two persons have become very popular. The benefit of having a fishing boat is especially observed when using fishing lures. These are cast away from the boat. When the boat starts to move, so does the fishing lure. In this situation, the natural move of the real fish prey is imitated, so the chances to catch a fish increase considerably.

The boats are used on small lakes and rivers. In these areas, larger boats would not fit by any means. On the other hand, the fishing boats that range from 8 to 12 feet in length are perfect for these areas.
